Heights Library Wireless Printing
WIRELESS PRINTING is a new service offered by your Heights libraries. It will allow you to print from your own laptop computer to our printers. This is a pilot project, and at this time wireless printing is free of charge. However, we ask that you please stick to our limit of 10 free pages a day. Eventually, wireless printing will become integrated with our regular printing system, at which point free pages will be subject to our normal limits.
Disclaimer: The Heights Library staff will be happy to assist you in understanding these instructions or in clarifying where the wireless printer is located, however we instruct our staff not to handle private computers. The Heights Library system accepts no responsibility for any possible damage that occurs resulting from your use of our service.

- The printer is now ready for use.
For Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8 (some versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8 may not be able to use our wireless printing):
- The configuration of wireless printing on Windows is complex, so please follow along closely and perform each of these steps.
- To open the control panel on Windows 7, click on your Start menu button, then go to Control Panel.
- To open the control panel in Windows 8, click on the Desktop tile. Move your mouse or finger to the bottom right of the screen until the "Charm Bar" opens on the right hand side of the screen. Click on the settings icon, then click on Control Panel.Open Devices and Printers.
- When the Devices and Printers window opens, click on "Add a Printer" at the top.

- Make sure that "Select a shared printer by name" is selected. You need to type in (or copy and paste) one of the following:
If at Lee Road: http://www.heightslibrary.org/printers/LeeRoadPrinter/.printer
If at Coventry Village: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/CoventryPrinter/.printer
If at Noble Neighborhood: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/NoblePrinter/.printer
If at University Heights: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/UHPrinter/.printer - You should receive a message that states that you have successfully added the printer you selected above. Click "Next" and "Finish" to finalize the installation of the printer.
- The printer is now ready for use.
For Apple Macintosh:
- The configuration of wireless printing on a Mac is complex, so please follow along closely and perform each of these steps.
- Open System Preferences and select Print & Fax on your Mac
- When the Print & Fax window opens, click on the lock icon at the bottom left and type in your user name and password (whichever user is the administrator of the computer) to unlock the ability to modify your printer settings.
- Look at the left-hand panel where the printers are listed and click on the small plus icon.
- The Add Printer window will open. You need to add the Advanced button to the tool bar in order to use our wireless printing. So, to do so, hold down the control key on your keyboard and click your mouse in the open space to the left of the search box. You will see a menu pop up, and one of the options will be Customize Toolbar. Click Customize Toolbar, then click and drag the Advanced icon on to the toolbar. Click the Done button.
- Back at the Add Printer window, click on the Advanced button. Where you see Type, selectInternet Printing Protocol (http). You may leave Device
- at its default setting. Where you see URL, type in the following:
If at Lee Road: http://www.heightslibrary.org/printers/LeeRoadPrinter/.printer
If at Coventry Village: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/CoventryPrinter/.printer
If at Noble Neighborhood: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/NoblePrinter/.printer
If at University Heights: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/UHPrinter/.printer
- Give this printer a name you will recognize, like "Lee Road Printer, Coventry Printer, Noble Printer, or UH Printer." The
- Location field is optional. Lastly, where you see Print Using, select Select Printer Software.
- In the pop-up window you will see a list of manufacturers and models. Select the option listed as:
If at Lee Road: HP LaserJet P4010 Series, choose model HP LaserJet P4014
If at Coventry Village: HP LaserJet 4100 Series
If at Noble Neighborhood: HP LaserJet 4200 Series
If at University Heights: HP LaserJet 4200 Series
- Click the Continue button and your printer will be installed!
- There appear to be some issues between Mac OS X and our service, so you will need to manually delete print jobs once they have printed.
For Other Operating Systems:
- These instructions are necessarily general since other operating systems will have their own method for adding such printers. You will want to add a new printer and select the options that will allow you to add an Internet Printer (using Internet Printing Protocol or otherwise known as IPP).
- Generally the following URL should work for the location of the printer:
If at Lee Road: http://www.heightslibrary.org/printers/LeeRoadPrinter/.printer
If at Coventry Village: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/CoventryPrinter/.printer
If at Noble Neighborhood: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/NoblePrinter/.printer
If at University Heights: http://heightslibrary.org/printers/UHPrinter/.printer
However, depending on your operating system, you may need to specify the host and printer queue seperately. If so, http://www.heightslibrary.org is the host, and
If at Lee Road: /printers/LeeRoadPrinter/.printer
If at Coventry Village: /printers/CoventryPrinter/.printer
If at Noble Neighborhood: /printers/NoblePrinter/.printer
If at University Heights: /printers/UHPrinter/.printer
should work for the queue. - You will want to select a device driver for the printer (a driver is software designed to allow a device to interract with an operating system). Here are the ones you will need for these printers:
If at Lee Road: HP LaserJet P4010 Series, choose model HP LaserJet P4014
If at Coventry Village: HP LaserJet 4100 Series
If at Noble Neighborhood: HP LaserJet 4200 Series
If at University Heights: HP LaserJet 4200 Series
In case you do not have access to these drivers, an HP LaserJet 4 driver will suffice. - You will also likely need to provide a name for the printer, in which case we suggest "Lee_Road_Pub_01 on http://www.heightslibrary.org."
